Cincinnati, Ohio, September 15, 2021 – The Charles H. Dater Foundation awarded three grants totaling $115,000 in August, concluding its 2020-2021 fiscal year having made 167 grants totaling $5.275,000.
Support included more than $500,000 in Covid-19 special grants for longtime and former grant recipient organizations providing life-sustaining services during the pandemic and $500,000 in June to the Freestore Foodbanks’s capital campaign. Over $60 million in grants have been made to more than 450 non-profit organizations in the Foundation’s 36 years of existence.
Childhood Food Solutions, $35,000. After testing home delivery in 2019, the organization will make deliveries to the homes of 500 children from September through November providing 45,000 days of food at a cost of $1.11 per child per day.
St. Vincent de Paul-Cincinnati, $30,000. As volunteers make home visits to families in need, over 1,000 beds will be provided to children who are sleeping on the floor. This grant will fund over 171 beds for children.
Civic Garden Center, $50,000. The Youth Education Program enables young people to foster an appreciation and respect for nature and the environment, understand where food comes from, and engage in healthy, outside activity. Offsite programs at schools as permitted by Covid restrictions and during the summer at community gardens will be a major part of the outreach.
The Dater Foundation makes grants to non-profit organizations in the Greater Cincinnati area to carry out programs that benefit young people and focus in the areas of arts/culture, education, healthcare, social services and other community needs. Information about the grantmaking process and guidelines and links to an online grant application website are available at www.DaterFoundation.org.
The private foundation was established by fourth-generation Cincinnatian, businessman and philanthropist Charles Dater (1912-1993) to ensure that his resources would continue to fund worthwhile community programs after his death.
