Music Therapy Program for Children who are Blind or Visually Impaired
Music therapy provides an opportunity for self-exploration, growth, and development of positive self-image. Additionally, music groups provide social and emotional support for children and their families. Children with vision loss need opportunities to express themselves in creative ways and develop musical skills that will help them prepare for community participation in choirs, bands, or orchestras. Music groups and music therapy provide opportunities for children to interact with peers and celebrate their unique talents. Traditional music classes are often not fully accessible to children who are blind or visually impaired. CABVI's music program is designed to support the development of children with severe vision loss as well as to encourage creative expression and provide a source of emotional support for children and their families.
