Children and Youth Arts and Music Enrichment and Civic Education Programs

Peaslee Neighborhood Center's children’s and youth programs creates access to high quality, education, enrichment and childcare opportunities across the school year, and during the summer for approximately 850 children, youth and their families. Peaslee applies a holistic approach centered on participatory education, led by trained, committed educators who engage with parents, community and the children and youth they teach and learn with each day. Arts, recreation and civic engagement experiences are tied to curriculum focuses, including extended learning into the city’s arts and community institutions through field trips. Kids and youth are encouraged to find their voice and share their writing or art by reading, exhibiting and/or publishing their work for their families and the general public. Given the school closures and overall instability brought on by the pandemic, strong and economically accessible education programs like those at Peaslee are even more critical for kids and youth this school year and into the future.
