Expansion of diaper distribution program
Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank (SCDB) is the only disposable diaper bank in the Greater Cincinnati area and partners with 44 local social service agencies to provide diapers to low-income families while raising awareness of the basic health need for diapers. The Diaper Distribution Program directly addresses diaper need, which is the lack of enough diapers to keep a child clean, dry, and healthy. Diaper need can lead to other physical, emotional, and psychological issues for children and their families, and is a distinct financial issue, as diapers are not covered by any government assistance programs. SCDB distributes diapers to approximately 3,500 children every single month, which is around 22% of the total need in the region. A Dater Foundation grant supported SCDB's Program Manager and Volunteer Coordinator. Both roles are integral to the Diaper Distribution Program, as these positions coordinate agency partnerships, fill agency diaper orders, control diaper inventory, coordinate and lead volunteer groups, and manage all survey data regarding outcomes from diaper distribution. The Dater grant allowed SCDB to increase operations, distributions, and the Diaper Distribution Program's overall reach throughout its communities. SCDB distributed 1,550,590 diapers in 2019 -- a 98% increase over 2018.
