Community Meal Center

General Operating Support

The mission of Community Meal Center is to offer safe and dignified havens in the community where hot meals and shelter can be shared.  Anyone in need can enjoy a hot, homemade meal. The focus is on meeting some of the social, physical and spiritual needs of the homeless, working poor and the hungry.

Founded in 2001, the Center serves an average of 350 meals to 150 guests on Friday and Monday (last one of month) evenings at two locations, Zion Lutheran and Power Source Churches, to guests who may have as many helpings as they want. On most Fridays, volunteer entertainers contribute their musical talents to the evening experience.   Other offerings on various occasions include fresh vegetables and dietary education from the Hamilton Urban Garden System, chair massages, manicures, signing onto health insurance, meeting with a Job & Family Service outreach staff member. and seeing a volunteer nurse and her assistants for free foot care.

CMC partners with many social service organizations, various schools and has a student servant leadership training program in which many high school and college students meet their service-learning requirements.  The volunteer force of community members is made up of scout troops, students, church members, and often dinner guests of the Center.  CMC continues to share harvested food with local organizations, individuals, and many other free meal programs. While CMC is concerned about these growing social service needs, the organization is pleased to have a viable model and diligently works together with others to serve members of our community who are in need.
