After-School Program

EDGE Teen Centers provides two after-school centers for high school students in Butler County, with a mission to empower teens to impact the world. Every day after school, teens in grades 9-12 take part in programs that challenge them to become the best version of themselves. Nearly 800 teens took part in EDGE programs during the year. About 160 teens attend the centers each day after school – the time of day when research shows teens are most likely to engage in risky behaviors. Dater Foundation funding supported EDGE’s focus areas that include Healthy Living, Academic Success, Life Skills and Community Service. The on-site counseling offered was one area where great impact was achieved. Social and emotional health has critical implications for the teens’ ability to be successful in school. As part of the Healthy Living program this year, teens had access to a licensed counselor two days each week and took part in small groups aimed at helping them develop coping skills. Year-end survey results showed that 84% of EDGE teens reported that EDGE had helped them feel more able to deal with day-to-day life stressors. Also, 91% of all EDGE teens expected to advance to the next grade level.
