Operation School Bell

Assistance League of Greater Cincinnati, an all-volunteer organization, is a local chapter of the National Assistance League and has been serving the Greater Cincinnati area for over 21 years. Volunteers are committed to both the Vision, “Essential needs are met in our community and families flourish” and the Mission, “Assistance League volunteers transforming the lives of children and adults through community programs.”  The signature program, Operation School Bell®, is an annual program providing children from high poverty schools with school uniforms.

The level of poverty in Cincinnati is extremely problematic.  Many families cannot provide their children with the school uniforms needed to attend school and achieve academic success.  Children participating in Operation School Bell are selected by school administrators, resource coordinators, and social workers based on Federal School Lunch Program guidelines and need. Parent or guardian permission is required for participation.  During the 2018-2019 school year, 4,656 students from grades kindergarten through six received new school uniforms consisting of: two pairs of pants, three shirts, a fleece jacket, underwear, socks and a belt.  Operation School Bell and the children served have benefitted from the support of the Dater Foundation.
