School Age Children’s Program

Special Olympics Hamilton County provides year-round sports training and competition in 25 different sports activities for over 1800 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.  Special education teachers to bring their students for a day of learning a sport that they might otherwise not have available to them.  This includes an Art Show, Individual Skills Basketball, After School Bowling, Fishing, Gymnastics, Motor Skills, Roller Skating, Soccer Training Day and Spring Games (Track & Field).   With over 600 volunteers helping with these activities, SOHC is already exceeding last year’s enrollment numbers for winter and spring activities.  A grant from the Dater Foundation allowed SOHC to purchase uniforms, rent space and purchase the equipment necessary to teach, train and compete in the sport or activity of choice.  It also allowed for the purchase of the coveted participation medals for each sport.  Special Olympics Hamilton County is dependent on grants along with fundraising events to provide all these different sports activities to local special needs children.
